No matter how nervous we are from the inside, looking good from the outside will help us to feel good about ourselves and thereby make a good impression in front of the interviewer. The way one dresses for an interview can speak a lot about one’s personality. Therefore, taking care of our appearance is a crucial step before appearing for an interview.

Punctuality
Punctuality may be a tip that we do not need to spell out as many of us have heard it before. However, it really is the thumb rule for interviews. Not being punctual for an interview may give an impression of being non-serious and careless. Being late can affect the plans of the interviewer and may play a factor in the hiring decision. Not reaching the venue on time might really hamper one’s interview and one may have to miss out on a good opportunity. Sleeping early the night before and getting up early on the day of the interview, planning our mode of transport in advance, keeping our attire ready, and preparing to reach the venue half an hour in advance can help us to be punctual on that day.

Body Language
In addition to dress and punctuality, body language at interviews is key. Speaking politely, greeting the interviewer, ensuring manners, our posture, our facial expressions help to ensure a positive body language. One needs to come across as confident and be conscious of not being over-confident or arrogant. A positive body language transfers positive vibes and puts both the interviewer and interviewee at ease.

Subject Knowledge
While preparing, one needs to have complete knowledge about the role that one is applying for and about the organization. One needs to brush up on knowledge in our area of expertise. Answers to the common interview questions can be practiced at home. Many prepare and practice in front of the mirror, which is a good tip to follow. If this is the first time that one is going to attend an interview, researching on what interviews are like and having answers prepared in advance to the usual questions will help.
