Empowering Communities through Technology Training: Building Digital Confidence

In our rapidly evolving digital era, possessing digital confidence is as crucial as traditional literacy. Digital confidence refers to the assurance and competence individuals feel when using digital technologies. This confidence enables people to navigate the internet, use software, access online services, and leverage digital tools effectively. Digital confidence is essential for assorted reasons. It empowers individuals to access information, resources, and opportunities that were previously unavailable. It enhances employability, as many jobs now require digital skills. Moreover, it fosters social inclusion by allowing individuals to stay connected with family, friends, and communities through social media and other online platforms. In an age where digital transformation touches every aspect of life, from education to healthcare, developing digital confidence is vital for personal and professional growth.

NIIT Foundation has been at the forefront of providing technology training to underserved communities. The organisation’s programs focus on equipping individuals with the necessary digital skills to enhance their employability and improve their quality of life. These training programs cover a range of skills – from basic computer literacy to advanced IT courses – tailored to meet the needs of various community groups. The courses offered include spoken English, personality development, data entry, and other vocational skills personalised to meet the demands of the current job market.

Success stories from these training programs highlight the transformative impact of digital confidence. Archana, a homemaker from Owala, Thane, had studied till Class X from an open school and was the sole earner in her family before marriage. After her wedding, she stopped working and was unemployed for seven years. Eager to change her life, she joined the Spoken English and Personality Development Course at the DXC centre run by NIIT Foundation. This training led to her selection as a salesperson at a startup called Satwaj Foods. Initially, Archana struggled to pronounce the names of spices in English, but with experience, she learned the names, read labels, and efficiently took orders from customers. The course significantly improved her job performance and proficiency.

Similarly, Lopita from Balasore District, Odisha, faced hardships due to her father’s alcoholism and her family’s financial struggles. Despite this, she completed her schooling and graduation, aspiring to work. At a local village fair, she discovered the Everest Career Development Centre by NIIT Foundation and enrolled in a data entry course. Upon completing the course, Lopita started giving tuition to school students at a coaching centre, eventually running her own tuition classes at home, earning INR 5000 per month. Both Archana and Lopita’s stories highlight how the organisation’s programs have empowered them with digital confidence, transforming their lives and careers.

Looking ahead, NIIT Foundation has ambitious plans to expand its technology training initiatives. Recognizing the growing demand for digital skills across various sectors, it aims to increase the number of training centres and broaden the range of courses offered. This expansion will focus on reaching underserved communities, including rural areas and marginalized groups, ensuring that everyone has access to quality digital education. Additionally, NIIT Foundation plans to incorporate emerging technologies and industry trends into its curriculum, keeping learners up to date with the latest advancements.

NIIT Foundation also intends to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, private sector companies, and other non-profit organizations to create a more robust support system for learners. These collaborations will help provide resources, mentorship, and job placement opportunities, further enhancing the impact of the training programs. By continuously adapting to the evolving digital landscape and addressing the specific needs of different communities, it aims to build a digitally confident and empowered society. In conclusion, digital confidence is essential for success in the modern world, and NIIT Foundation’s technology training programs play a pivotal role in building this confidence.

According to most sources, Lorum Ipsum can be traced back to a text composed by Cicero in 45 BC. Allegedly, a Latin scholar established the origin of the text by compiling all the instances of the unusual word ‘consectetur’ he could find and eventually recognized it as a passage from ‘De finibus bonorum et malorum’ (On the extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, a book that was very popular in the Middle Ages: “Neque porro quisquam est, qui dolorem ipsum, quia dolor sit, amet, consectetur, adipisci velit… ” (Approximately: “Nor is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain…”). A typical Lorem Ipsum text goes like this: “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisici elit, sed eiusmod tempor incidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim …”.

It seems that only fragments of the original text remain in the Lorem Ipsum texts used today. One may speculate that over the course of time certain letters were added or deleted at various positions within the text. This might also explain why one can now find slightly different versions. Due to the age of the Lorem Ipsum text there are no copyright issues to contend with.

In the 1960s, the text suddenly became known beyond the professional circle of typesetters and layout designers when it was used for Letraset sheets (adhesive letters on transparent film, popular until the 1980s) Versions of the text were subsequently included in DTP programmes such as PageMaker etc.

The spread of computers and layout programmes thus made dummy text better known. While in earlier times several lines of the Lorem Ipsum text were repeated in the creation of dummy texts, today the full text of Cicero’s ‘De finibus’ serves as the basis for many dummy text or Lorem Ipsum generators. Based on ‘De finibus’, these generators automatically create longer sections of the Lorem Ipsum text or various other filler texts.
